RecycleMania is a yearly intercollegiate recycling competition held between nearly 200 colleges and universities. The goal of RecycleMania are to educate faculty, staff, and students about waste reduction. Schools are ranked against each other based on our recycling, composting, and landfill data in addition to the number of people who get involved with programs.

Residence Hall Competition

Every year, as a part of Recyclemania, UT Recycling hosts a residence hall competition based on a point system. Points are based on the amount a Residence Hall recycles (by weight) and by participation. Below are some ways that your residence hall can gain participation points!

Residence Hall Staff can earn points by:

  • Hosting Recyclemania Residence hall programs: 300 Points
  • Hosting Recyclemania floor programs: 100 Points
  • Creating Recyclemania bulletin boards: 50 Points
  • Getting residents to fill out action pledges:10 Points

Residents can earn points by:

  • Volunteering with UT Recycling: 20 Points
  • Attending a documentary: 20 Points
  • Attending E-Waste Drive: 20 Points
  • Attend a tour: 20 Points

The winning residence hall will receive a trophy and pizza party for the RAs!

The residents in that hall will all receive a zero waste kit!

  2. Reduce what you do need.
  3. Reuse what you consume.
  4. Recycle what you cannot refuse, reduce or reuse.
  5. Rot (compost) the rest.
